Slow Cooker Bone Broth Recipe

Happy New Year!

slow-cooker-picI thought I’d share what I’ve been working on lately (dialing in a homemade bone broth) in case:

  • You need some post-holiday nourishment
  • Learning something new helps offset pandemic boredom for you, too

We are a community focused on building health and adaptability. One of those factors is making sure your body gets the nutrients it needs so it can handle stress.

Here’s a slow cooker bone broth recipe I just tried over the weekend for the first time:
https://www.themagicalslowcooker.com/slow-cooker-beef-bone-broth/

It’s really easy – after broiling or roasting the bones you just throw everything in the crockpot, set it and leave it for 12 hours.

Once you’re done, make sure you let it cool and skim the fat before using or storing.

And I owe a shout out to Eric at the Willy St. Co-op for his help with what bones to buy, things to add, etc. – really helpful.

Mine didn’t quite get the gel consistency I expected from the bones – it turned out more like a stock than a bone broth.

Maybe next time I’ll try boiling it on the stovetop and see if that brings out more collagen.

Let me know how yours turns out, and if you have any recommendations on how to improve this recipe, I’m all ears.
